PONDA: Protesting in front of Government Primary School, Davshirem-Usgao over the shortage of teachers, around 85 students along with their parents on Monday threatened to boycott classes for an indefinite period from July 17 onwards if the Education Department fails to recruit five teachers.
According to PTA president Ulhas Satarkar, only two teachers manage four classes with around 85 students and criticised the Education Department for failing to fulfil their demand to provide five teachers. He said one teacher has retired and there is shortage of three teachers.
The parents alleged that the students have been lagging behind in studies due to the shortage of teachers.
“We have been meeting the Director of Education and Ponda ADEI and we have been receiving only assurances”, Satarkar claimed.
He recalled that last year the parents and students had boycotted classes due to shortage of teachers and added that this primary school holds evening session between 1 pm and 5 pm and teachers appointed here often try to get themselves transferred to the place of their “choice” stating that it is not convenient for them to teach during the evening session.
The lady teachers do not want to teach during the evening session citing reasons such as reaching home late, he claimed.
