MARGAO: The Macazana village panchayat is hit by a row of sorts over the tender in respect of de-silting of drains and cutting of bushes along roadsides.
A letter written by Sarpanch Tereza Almeida e Costa to the Salcete Block Development Office to prepare the necessary bill and pay the contractor for work of de-silting of drains and cutting of bushes has created a hornet’s nest.
It has now come to light that the contractor had not completed the work in all respect raising questions how the Sarpanch could ask the BDO to make payments to the contractor.
In this connection, a local resident Antonieta Vas e Cota has complained to the BDO to conduct site inspection of the drainages of the village roads and to check if the contactor has carried on the work of de-silting of drainages and cutting of bushes. She has also demanded a stop the payment to the contractor.
“I understand that the de-silting of drains and cutting of bushes along the roads was given to the contractor in August by the village panchayat, but no work of de-silting of drains was carried out in the village, nor any bushes were cut along the village roads,” Antonieta said.
When contacted, Sarpanch Tereza said that when she decided to verify the work on the site she found that the work was not complete at many places.
“When we found that work was not carried out at many places, the contractor was directed to complete the work. Presently, work on the de-silting of drains is in progress,” she said, adding that payments will not be made to the contractor unless work is completed in all respects as per the tender.
