PONDA: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza on Monday had a meeting with Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) to decide on the controversial hiked Sopo tax, which is being opposed by agitating vendors.
It is learnt that the decision to reduce or rollback the Sopo tax is likely to be decided on August 5. A delegation of the protesting also interacted with the deputy chief minister to discuss the issue on Sopo tax, which is likely to come up in the Assembly on Tuesday.
It may be recalled that the agitating vendors have decided to observe a market Bandh on August 6 in protest against the hiked Sopo rates.
