Decision on remaining huts today

VASCO: With the High Court vacating the status quo on the recently demolished huts at Baina beach which are within the high tide zone, South Goa Collector Venancio Furtado and his team will decide on the demolition of remaining huts on Saturday.

According to sources, Mormugao Deputy Collector Gaurish Shankwalkar conducted a fresh inspection of the demolition site at Baina on Friday morning and later convened a meeting with the Mormugao Mamlatdar and other officials.
When asked about the future course of action, Shankwalkar said: “A meeting has been scheduled with the South Goa Collector and all other agencies involved in the demolition on Saturday.”
Speaking to Herald, South Goa Collector Venancio Furtado said he will meet all the other agencies involved in demolition of huts on Saturday and take appropriate decision when and how to go about with the remaining demolitions.
Asked about the rehabilitation of the migrants, Furtado said the government has already has set up relief camps to accommodate all the migrants.
When brought to his notice that migrants were reluctant to stay in the relief camps, Furtado replied: “My primary concern is to save innocent lives and shift them to a safer place.”
