NEW DELHI: Two defection cases of Goa, one by State Congress president Girish Chodankar against 10 MLAs who quit the Congress and another by Maharashtravadi Gomatak Party (MGP) MLA Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar against his two MLAs joining the ruling BJP after quitting the MGP, are not coming up on Friday before the Supreme Court.

The cases are being dealt by Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, who is not sitting on Friday, and hence both the cases were dropped from the cause list. There is a distant possibility of their listing on Monday since the CJI told a lawyer in another case that it would be taken up on Monday since his Bench won’t assemble on Friday.
Even otherwise, Goa Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar, who is under attack in both the petitions for sitting over the applications to disqualify the 12 MLAs, is hospitalised, a valid ground he would have taken for adjourning the cases.
He earlier had said that the coronavirus situation prevailing in Goa had not allowed him to file his response in the Supreme Court.
