PANJIM: Hundreds of people gathered at Quittol, Betul at the site of Defence Expo to oppose the event over reports that work on the expo would begin Wednesday morning. However, Defence officials played truant and are now expected to start work on Thursday with the bhumi puja.
The protesters were led by Quepem MLA Babu Kavlekar and Independent Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai. The Orixtt Porjecho Awaaz, that organised the protest, decided to continue the agitation on Thursday and not allow the bhumi puja.
Speaking at the meeting, Fr Eremito Rebello said that nobody in Goa, except for former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who is now the Union Defence minister, knows what the DefExpo is and how it is going to benefit Goa.
