Delaying South district hospital criminal negligence: Shantaram

MARGAO: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Shantaram Naik who visited the under construction district hospital at South Goa on Tuesday alleged that the delay in completion of works is a criminal negligence by the government.

The hospital works have been retendered for Rs 81 crore, according to the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation officials, and work will begin soon.
Naik questioned the government why is it taking so long for it to decide on the modalities of the nursing college in the same building. GIDC General Manager Subhash Nage says that they have set a time frame of 21 months for the completion of the hospital work.
A site inspection at the building has revealed several laxities by the contractor including clogging of basement and big drains around the building with water, creating fear of malaria outbreak among the surrounding residents. Nage told media that the water in the basement doesn’t affect the building but will be pumped out in two to three days.
Naik has promised that he will pursue the matter with the Government and will ensure the speedy completion of works. He informed that the hospital work is still in the second phase. The MP expressed shock that no labourers were seen working at site of the major project.
