PANJIM: The demonetisation shock on November 8 last year, may have subsided, but sectors like real estate, agriculture, tourism did get affected adversely by this move.
Real estate market, jewellery market felt devastated as majority of cash transactions took place in these two sectors as people used these sectors to park their black money. This trend was nationwide and Goa was no exception.
Herald ventured across the State, to places like Panjim, Mapusa, Canacona, Vasco, Bicholim, Valpoi, Ponda and many other places, and found out that majority felt that “idea was good but the implementation could have been better”.
The introduction of Rs 2000 currency notes was another shocker for many. “India does not need Rs 2000 currency notes. Rs 500 currency note is good enough for the Indian economy,” said a resident from Valpoi. Post demonetisation, many transactions takes place either electronically or through cards anyways.
From Ponda reactions did come in that it was a hasty and mindless decision which lacked proper implementation. Common people did notice the absence of politicians from the serpentine queue before a bank or an ATM during the “cash crises” days.
Herald brings to you reactions from all across the state on issue of demonetisation on Page 5.
