Depression, stress main reasons for suicide

Over 25% of suicide cases caused by depression, stress and frustration

PANJIM: Depression, stress and frustration are the prime reasons for suicide in the State, as these causes have led to over 25 percent of the suicide cases reported in the Goa since 2014. Unemployment and love affairs are also amongst the reasons that have led to suicides.
As per information tabled on the floor of the House, from 2014 till June 2017, there have been 1004 suicide cases reported in the State. For the ongoing year, 133 cases have been registered till June 30.
The year 2014 recorded 286 suicide cases, the number witnessed a sharp rise in 2015 with 308 cases. In 2016, the number came down to 277 cases.
The information was provided by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to a question raised by Congress Margao MLA Digambar Kamat.
A close analysis of the data reveals that depression, stress and frustration resulting into consumption of alcohol and mental disturbance, are key reasons for suicides. Over 250 such cases were reported in the last three years.
Losses of business, unhealthy family atmosphere, failure in examination, study pressure, prolonged sickness are some of the factors that have led to depression, stress and frustration amongst the deceased.
