SANGUEM: Sanguem Deputy Collector Ajit Gaude accompanied by PWD officials, panchayat member Suraj Naik, Dr Damodar Gaonkar and Adv Amar Naik conducted the site inspection of the bridge at Costi, which the villagers say is in a dilapidated condition and unsafe for road users.
The villagers had complained that the Portuguese era bridge is worn out and the cement plaster of the bridge has given way.
The villagers pointed out that the laterite stones used in the reinforcement of the bridge are falling apart and cracks could be seen at many places all over the bridge.
The bridge is widely used by the villagers from Costi to proceed to Curchorem via Chowgule mines and forms a shorter route for the villagers proceeding to Curchorem.
Sources informed that the villagers had also sought for the stoppage of movement of heavy transport over the bridge pending its reconstruction.
Deputy Collector Ajit Gaude informed that due and necessary action will be taken in the matter only after going through the report to be submitted by the PWD officials who are experts in the field.
