Development, identity to be government focus, says CM

Assures that unfulfilled promises of last term will be completed

PANJIM: Exuding confidence that his coalition government will complete the full five-year term, newly sworn-in Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said his focus would be on development and maintaining a separate identity of Goa and Goans.
Parrikar also said that remaining assurances of the last government would be completed by this government.
“Development and retaining specialty of Goa – Goenkarponn – which Vijai reminds me again and again will be my focus areas,” Parrikar said after the swearing in ceremony at Raj Bhavan. “We will maintain separate identity of Goa and Goans,” he said without elaborating further.
He said the coalition government will complete full five year term sweeping aside forecast and speculation of an early election, saying, “This government will last for 365 days x 5 years.”
On declassification of coconut tree as “grass”, Parrikar said, “It is a misconception but necessary amendment can be done in the next Assembly session.”
Parrikar said that within a month of taking office his government will prepare a common minimum programme which will focus on financial and policy matters. “We will give you common minimum programme within a month. One will be policy matters and one will be financial matters,” he stated.
On the unfulfilled promises of last government, Parrikar said, “There are not so many promises left of last government but this government can definitely fulfill them.”
About the cabinet expansion, he said, first the current ministers sworn-in will be given portfolios after the floor test. “The balance gap of two ministers will be somewhere in April,” he stated.
