DGP reviews probe into Sunset beach gang rape case

Instructs investigators to file a foolproof indictment that results in conviction

MARGAO: Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander on Wednesday visited Margao to review the investigations in the gang rape case and told the investigating officers that an airtight charge sheet should be filed without leaving any loophole for the accused to exploit.
The DGP reviewed the investigations with SP Dinraj Govekar, DySP Raju Raut Dessai, Police Inspectors Navlesh Desai, Filomeno Costa and Kapil Nayak and told them that this case has to end in a conviction and asked the police to file the charge-sheet as soon as possible.
The police officers informed the DGP that 70 per cent of the investigations are complete and further told him that they are waiting for the report from the team that has gone to Madhya Pradesh to collect additional information.
Apparently, a team of Colva Police headed by Head Constable Sidharth Kumba are in Madhya Pradesh and are expected within the next two days to report their findings there.
On May 24, three tourists from Madhya Pradesh (a labourer Ishwar Makhawana, a teacher Sanjeev Pal and a student Ram Bhariya) allegedly raped a 20-year-old girl at Sunset beach.
