PONDA: Replying to the allegations made against him by colleagues, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar stated that those colleagues were jealous of his achievements. He said that he had provided government jobs to residents of Ponda, as a result of which his colleagues felt it was an injustice to other Goans, and criticized him for it.
Dhavalikar was speaking at a function organized by Kavlem panchayat and Madhavrao Dhavalikar trust on Wednesday. Shortly before his speech, he distributed scholarships to 35 meritorious SSC and HSSC students, and notebooks and school uniforms to needy students from Marcaim constituency.
He credited the high number of jobs to the upgradation of Ponda’s educational status over the years, and said that majority of Ponda students easily got jobs and excelled in interviews for government and private jobs. He added, “If they want to bring parivartan in their constituency, they should talk less and work hard along the lines of Ponda.”
He further said that out of the top 100 students in the SSC exam merit list, 60 were from Ponda. In the HSSC exams, 90 students from Ponda scored more than 90 per cent, while in his Marcaim constituency, the overall passing percentage was over 80 – more than what his critics’ constituencies could achieve.
He credited the “hard working” students, teachers, parents, the local sarpanch and school managements for their proper guidance and encouragement.
Dhavalikar advised his critics that instead of targeting him unnecessarily, they should work hard to improve the infrastructure in educational institutions and provide guidance to parents in their constituencies.
Meanwhile, condemning the statement made by Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Taleigao Mandal president Dattaprasad Naik calling for the sacking of PWD Minister Sudin Dhawlikar, MGP said that the statement made by Naik passes a wrong message to the people.
“Issues like this can be solved within party and BJP is a very disciplined party and they should solve it amicably with the alliance partner if they have any issues regarding development or anything else,” working president of MGP, Narayan Sawant said.
He also said that party leaders should make Naik understand that these issues should be sorted out at party level.
