Dhoromsonkot, a tiatr written and directed by J L Diogo Fernandes and presented by Dramatic Troupe of Ribandar, highlights unexpected storms in life and challenges ahead.
Cheri (Princilla Lobo), an unwed mother, has to singlehandedly take care of her daughter, Lia (Shanika Carvalho) and ailing mother Marise (Charmaine Fernandes).
Years earlier, Ralph (Henzil Cardozo), who had stayed as a paying guest, had taken undue advantage of Cheri. He tutors her and parts for his further studies, never to return.
Meanwhile, Cheri is pregnant and carries Ralph’s child. Unable to fulfill her dream with Ralph, Cheri vows to take utmost care of Lia and not allow history to repeat in her daughter’s life.
Ralph, who is now a police officer, gets transferred to Goa. He returns with his wife, Agnes (Merlyn Rodrigues), who is a teacher and psychologist by profession. Agnes encounters Lia in school and notices some absurd behaviour in the child. She tries to study the child intensely and investigations lead to unearthing hard truths, which are difficult to accept.
What is the root cause of Lia’s strange behaviour? Why does her mom instruct her to behave in that manner? Does she feel insecure without her father? What steps does Agnes take for the safety of the child? Will Cheri agree to Agnes’ decision?
‘Dhoromsonkot’ brings to light various unforeseen struggles in life and the challenges that often leave people in problems. Despite flashbacks, the story keeps moving only at one level throughout with less progress, except for a convincing conclusion.
Circumstances and situations often lead to unexpected end results. Marriage is a sacrament and a lasting bond among couples which cannot be broken. These form some of the highlights in the drama.
Princilla Lobo and Merlyn Rodrigues excel in their natural acts, despite moving in two different directions. Henzil Cardozo failed to impress in a SP’s uniform. Charmaine Fernandes appeared comfortable in the mother’s role. Godfrey, Estefania, Diogo extended support to the main cast with brief entries. But teen Shanika Carvalho was appealing in her childlike looks and swift dialogue delivery.
Heston Cardozo, Lolita Froes, Snehal Kundaikar and Maria Asmita Lotlikar formed the comic quartet, but the foursome lacked the necessary ingredients to get the audience to laugh.
Songs by Maythan Barretto, Henzil Cardozo and Meryln Rodrigues, Marfie Lobo, Charmaine Fernandes and Godfrey Peixoto were appealing to the ears. The live music was blaring and the light effects could have been handled more professionally.
