PANJIM: The government has notified the High Speed Diesel subsidy to fishing vessels and kerosene subsidy to traditional fisherman and directed local fishermen’s co-operative societies to procure HSD from public sector oil companies, other registered/authorized HSD oil dealer or pumps and supply it to their members.
The societies have to then produce the VAT tax bills or vouchers to claim the subsidy under the scheme for granting financial assistance for purchase of kerosene to the fishermen with out board motors.
To avail of the scheme, the fishing canoe and fishermen should be registered under the Goa, Daman & Diu Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1980 (& of 1981), should be a member of the registered fisheries co-operative societies/associations and should possess a valid net and fishing licences for the year.
“This scheme designed to support fishing industry in Goa and grant financial assistance for purchase of kerosene consumed by them for the purpose of fishing activities,” the notification by Nandkishor V Verlekar, Director and ex-officio Joint Secretary (Fisheries) states.
Fishing is one of the prime occupations. There has been a persistent demand from these traditional fishermen to provide them kerosene at subsidised rates.
