MARGAO: Badly damaged and pot-holed roads in Margao may finally undergo repairs within the next two days, but not before the BJP took pot shots at local MLA Digambar Kamat, blaming him for the dilapidated condition of the city roads.
While Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar issued directions to PWD engineers to start the road repair work immediately after a BJP delegation led by Sharma Raiturcar drew his attention to the pathetic road condition, the local BJP trained its guns at Kamat saying, that road works tendered way back in 2013 has not been implemented till date for want of a ‘go ahead’ signal from the local MLA.
Sharmad along with BJP workers descended at the badly damaged Eastern bypass road along with PWD officials and contractor on Wednesday evening to take stock of the situation and reassure motorists that repair would begin immediately.
Sharmad later told the media that the Parrikar government had tendered hot mixing of all roads in Margao last year, but the works are awaiting implementation till date on the pretext that the roads have been dug up for the sewerage and underground cabling works. “But, we have also come to know that the PWD could not go ahead with the hot mixing work for want of a go ahead signal from the local MLA. Today, we called on the Chief Minister and told him not to wait for Kamat to give his nod,” Sharmad told the media.
He expressed satisfaction that the chief minister has immediately issued instructions to the PWD engineers to start road repair work within a day or two and execute the hot mixing work after the repair work.
