PANJIM: Transport Department informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa that the process of implementing digital fare meters with global positioning system in tourist taxis in Goa is on the right track.
Transport Department said they required time to file the status report in the court and the next hearing has been scheduled on May 3.
It also said that so far 80 applications for renewal of permits of taxis have been issued after the cutoff date based on the applicant’s undertaking that digital fare meters will be installed as soon as it is notified and implemented in the State.
The High Court had directed the government to enforce the use of digital meters for tourist taxis and additionally as per the Rule 125-H of CMVR, all public services vehicles, shall be equipped with or fitted with a vehicle location tracking device and one or more emergency button.
