VASCO: The over 24-year-old dilapidated Vasco fire station building would be demolished in the next 10 days and work for the new building for the fire station would begin soon.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said that the existing Vasco fire station building was in a dilapidated condition and all the offices were operating from adjoining premises on a temporary basis and since the building could not be repaired it would be demolished to pave way for the construction of a new structure that would be equipped with all modern facilities.
“The existing fire station building in Vasco is 24 years old. After the PWD authorities conducted a stability test, they declared it unsafe. We have decided to demolish the old building and a new one estimated at a cost of about Rs 7 crores would be constructed at the same location. Till such period the Vasco fire station will be shifted to the vacant Sada sub-jail premises and the operations would be from Sada,” Almeida said.
