Speaking to Herald, the sports personalities who used to play badminton alleged that the migrants have spoilt the wooden floor of the badminton court.
Some school children, who used to play football or cricket at the ground, told Herald that they cannot use the ground as small children of the migrants answer nature’s call and even use it as their toilet.
“Earlier every Sunday and other holidays, we used to play football or cricket on the ground but ever since the migrants are housed in the sports complex, we could not used the ground,” said a school student.
“Bhutea Bhat ground is the only place where we used to practice, but we are deprived even this, as the sports complex is used to house the migrants and their children dirty the ground.”
The badminton players told Herald that ever since the migrants are housed at the sports complex, their badminton practice has come to a grinding halt. “We do not know how long the sports complex will be occupied by the migrants. We urge the government to vacate the migrants from the sports complex and shift them to an alternate location and restore the badminton court so we can start our badminton practises,” said a badminton player.
When contacted, South Goa Collector Venancio Furtado said the migrants presently staying at Bhutea Bhat Sports complex will be vacated shortly and the migrants of the second phase of demolition will be accommodated at an alternate location and the sports complex and the ground will be free for the sportspersons to practice their games.
