Disability Rights Group Flags Lack of Reservation for PwDs in GSSC’s 722-Post Recruitment Drive

The Disability Rights Association of Goa has objected to the recent recruitment advertisement issued by the Goa Staff Selection Commission (GSSC) for 722 government posts, alleging that no vacancies have been reserved for persons with disabilities (PwDs), in violation of statutory provisions.

In a representation submitted to the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, the association stated that the omission contravenes the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which mandates a four per cent reservation for PwDs in government employment.

The association further pointed out that several of the posts included in the advertisement are suitable for persons with disabilities, yet none have been specifically earmarked under the mandated reservation categories.

Seeking immediate intervention, the group urged the authorities to direct the GSSC to revise the advertisement and incorporate the legally required reservations. The association also noted that a related matter concerning reservation for PwDs in government recruitment is already pending before the State Commissioner, and called for expeditious action to safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities.

The association reiterated that inclusive recruitment practices are essential to ensure equal opportunities and compliance with the law.
