PANJIM: All eyes are set on Goa Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar, who is likely to pronounce his judgement on the two separate disqualification petitions filed against 12 defected MLAs, on Tuesday.

The Speaker has asked both the petitioners – MGP legislator Sudin Dhavalikar and Congress President Girish Chodankar to remain present in his chamber at Goa Assembly Complex, Porvorim, at 4 pm and 4.30 pm, respectively.
Dhavalikar had filed disqualification petition against party’s two MLAs Manohar Babu Ajgaonkar and Deepak Pauskar, who joined BJP in March 2019 while, Chodankar is seeking disqualification of 10 rebel MLAs, who too switched over to BJP in July 2019.
The Speaker had earlier fixed his order for April 29 but advanced it to April 20 following the directives by the Chief Justice of India S A Bobde.
During the hearing before the Supreme Court on April 6, the Bench headed by the CJI Bobde said that he was superannuating the office on April 23 and therefore he won’t be there to preside over the Bench.
He also asked the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta whether the matter be heard all over again by a new Bench after he demits the office.
