VASCO: Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has approved Rs 6 lakh to Mormugao Municipal Council for pre-monsoon works.
According to MMC sources, pre-monsoon works in the Mormugao Municipal area has been going on a war footing, but no contractor was engaged in view of Municipal elections and due to Model Code of Conduct.
“Pre-monsoon works have already commenced from April 1 in all wards and municipality workers are engaged in carrying out the same. Cleaning of drains, nullahs and trimming of trees will be completed in the next few days. Fogging was also done in all the wards”, sources informed.
“Major works of cleaning of drains and nullah is yet to begin as the MMC was unable to engage a contractor in view of municipal elections and Model Code of Conduct”, sources added.
It may be recalled that since past two years some low lying areas including the area near municipality building reported water logging due to choked drains.
After showers, on Tuesday night in Port town, the Sada Jetty witnessed piling up of garbage, plastic waste on the road due to rainwater. The sewerage line and gutters which were overflowing were later cleaned by the MMC workers.
