PANJIM: The opposition Congress party on Thursday appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to see that every student as your child and to decide with water-tight safety measures to open the schools.

Reacting to the Chief Minister’s statement that the government is set to open schools as early as from October 4, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee senior spokesman Trajano D’Mello said that during the closure of the schools till date, the government has failed to inspect and support and aid the infrastructure that would be required to manage the SOPs at the time of opening.

Sawant should understand that the UNICEF has stressed on the safety of students, he said.

Trajano said that the scare of 72 students in Karnataka testing positive to COVID-19 infection has created panic in the minds of Goan student parents. The recent past statement of the Chief Minister over two minors rape case at Benaulim that “Parents should take care of their children” was there on record to say that he was misunderstood and that he too was a parent of a girl child and understood the pain and trauma of a parent.

Trajano said that the Chief Minister as usual had shirked away from his responsibility and accountability by creating more confusion than clarity. Sawant’s claim is it is the recommendation of the COVID-19 Expert Committee and Task Force will deliberate on it and then send it to Education Department for implementing.
