PANJIM: As the first crisis hit the Laxmikant Parsekar-led government, the Chief Minister has advised thousands of employees recruited through the Goa Recruitment and Employment Society not to fall prey to elements who are provoking them to take to the streets over petty issues. The employees are on an indefinite hunger strike since December 1 and have threatened to go on fast-unto-death from Tuesday if their demands are not met by the government.
“They will be taken into service through Goa Human Resource Development Corporation, provided they withdraw the strike. They will have to fill the required form, after which, they will be selected to undergo training for a certain period,” Parsekar told media persons at the Secretariat on Monday, in a bid to urge the workers to break the strike.
After using the stick, by imposing section 144 and getting the employees to shift to Azad Maidan, by declaring the venue opposite the Captain of Ports illegal for dharnas and strikes, the government offered the carrot of accommodating them through Goa Human Resource Development Corporation.
Claiming that government has already relaxed certain requirements for their employment, Parsekar assured that security guards will be given priority as several recruitment rules, applicable to apply to the Corporation would also be modified.
“Age relaxation can be given from the existing 30 years to 40 years. Even as far as educational qualification is concerned, we can accept the applications of Class VI pass candidates as against the present rule of Class X,” he said adding, “Whatever government can do, it will do. We also want that people have job security and earn a decent living. We are working for the benefit of the downtrodden. But don’t fall in the ditch because
certain sections of the people and union leaders are misleading you.”
