Don’t panic over power tariff hike, it’s negligible: Min

PANJIM: Trying to play down the increase in FPPCA charges, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said that the hike in the charges was negligible.

Speaking to reporters, Cabral said the FPPCA charges are throughout the country and levied by the JERC.

“The State has not imposed the charges but as per JERC guidelines,” he said. Even then, Cabral states, the hike is very negligible and would not pinch the common man.

“There is no need to panic. Some people are trying to create unnecessary confusion,” he said adding that power rates in Goa are the lowest in the country.

On the plan to scrap the slab system in power consumption, Cabral said, that is a move which will affect high end users.

“Why should a high end user like a person using 800 units get benefit of slab system which is done for poor people?” he asked.
