PANJIM: The Agassaim police have registered a case of dowry harassment, dowry death and abetment to suicide against four persons after a woman allegedly took her life at her in-laws’ residence at GMC quarters last month.
The FIR was registered on Sunday based on a complaint filed by Deputy Collector and Sub Divisional Magistrate (Tiswadi) Shashank Tripathi, who conducted an inquiry into the episode as the death occurred less than 7 years of marriage. The report findings had indicted them of the offence.
Details shared by Agassiam police reveal that Anusha Ananthu (25) was allegedly subjected to cruelty and harassment for not meeting their various demands of dowry. She hung herself at the residence on January 9 night, an extreme step she took within one and half years of marriage.
Victim’s husband Maheshrao Ananthu (32) who is a police constable, father-in-law Sommaiah (58, a GMC employee), mother-in-law Ramanamma (47) and brother in law Manoj (30) are booked under Sections 498-B for dowry harassment, 306 abetment to suicide and Section 304-B dowry death read with Section 34 common intention of Indian Penal Code.
