PANJIM: Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) has demanded accessibility for persons with disability and elderly at gram sabha meetings starting with the special gram sabha meeting on October 2.
In a letter to the Director Panchayats, DRAG stated, “We have been receiving many complaints by persons with disability that gram sabha meetings are held in places which are not accessible to persons with disability and the elderly as a result they cannot participate in the same.”
DRAG wants to bring to the notice that Section 46 of the Persons With Disability Act 1995, Article 9 of the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disability and a Govt of Goa circular mandate that all public programmes should be held in places which are accessible to persons with disability.
