MARGAO: After dragging its feet for nearly a month now, the Director of Panchayats has finally fixed elections for the vacant post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch of the Dramapur VP.
As per a notice issued by the BDO office, the elections will be held on September 27 at 10.30 am in the village Panchayat office. Anuradha Sarang has been appointed by the panchayat director as the presiding officer.
Elections for the vacant post of sarpanch and deputy Sarpanch have been necessitated following the ouster of then Sarpanch Olasrico Rodrigues and his deputy Edcy Fernandes from office in a no trust motion. The no trust motion against the duo was carried by 4-0 votes. The four-member group is expected to field panch member Agostinho D’Costa for the post of Sarpanch.
What’s interesting to note is that the panchayat director has fixed the elections exactly a month after both the sarpanch and deputy sarpanch were voted out of office. Panchayat members had demanded early polls for the vacant posts as functioning of the VP had come to a virtual halt with the administrator appointed by the panchayat director making his presence in the panchayat only once a week. The VP administration had also collapsed since the incumbent panchayat secretary is holding additional charge of another panchayat.
