VALPOI: In what may be seen as a bid to protect environment and desist careless picnickers from littering and incautiously casting aside empty bottles and cans in the Chorla Ghat area of Sattari, the Valpoi police and exercise department have initiated a joint drive on Chorla Ghat road to check vehicles carrying liquor to the waterfalls.
The joint drive will continue till the end of monsoon and special police pickets would be deployed at each waterfall to control the nuisance and instill a sense of responsible picnicking, to preserve nature.
Besides, police and exercise staff have also been deployed at Khotodem village main junction to keep a check on visitors proceeding towards other local village waterfalls.
A large number of liquor bottles too were seized from these locations by excise department and Valpoi police station, on Saturday.
There are almost 20 beautiful small and big waterfalls in Sattari, which become an attraction for locals and tourists alike, especially during the monsoons and the drive is an effort to create awareness and maintain cleanliness.
