PANJIM, MAY 8
The Traffic Police Cell of Goa Police will launch a Special drive for one week from May 9 to 15 to enforce compulsory use of helmet by riders on all National Highways in Goa.
All motorcyclists are appealed to use helmet on National Highways. Non-use of helmet is punishable under section 129 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and 273 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1991. Riders should use ISI mark helmet and make sure that they fasten the straps properly.
In year 2008, total 159 two wheeler riders died in road accidents in Goa. Over past few days there has been a sudden rise in deaths of motorcyclists and almost in all the fatal accidents motorcyclists died due to head injuries as they were not wearing helmets.
