Panjim: As one young man battles for his life in the ICU of the GMC and the other had both his legs broken, the woman responsible for this, Shobika Gaur, who knocked them down, while ‘drunk”, is free. The police have let her go after she failed the breath analyser test, stating that they need to do some ‘documentation work’. Gaur, is an employee of a high-end private hospital, having earlier worked in the sales team of a private radio station and is therefore “connected”.
Meanwhile, the victims, 22 year old Sandesh Khutkar and 20 year old Kaiser Braganza underwent surgeries for multiple injuries after they were knocked down by a car driven by Shobhika Gaur, on the wrong side of the road at near the old secretariat early Sunday morning.
Khutkar is still in the ICU with a ruptured liver and is unconscious while Braganza who has fractured both his legs, and is recuperating in the general ward. Khutkar hails from Porvorim while Braganza is from Miramar.
Gaur has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Medical report confirmed she was under the influence of alcohol. More so, the police not only found liquor bottles in her car but were also told by eye-witnesses that unidentified persons smashed the car’s number plate to avoid police action. “We have to complete documentary work before taking her into custody,” a Panjim officer said.
