If Margao is plagued by haphazard laying of underground lines for want of a conduit or duct system, this duct laid along the half-a-decade old four-lane road on the Navelim Church-Margao fly over stretch in the commercial capital is lying unutilised till date.
A whopping amount of public money to the tune of Rs 65 lakh has gone into the construction of the duct system along the four-lane road built by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation. Though the road was commissioned five years ago, one has noticed digging along the road for cable laying, but not a line has been laid in the duct till date.
Former Margao Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho said while leaders attribute breakdown of water lines to the absence of conduits or ducts, the powers that be have not put the duct laid along the Navelim Church-Margao flyover road to proper use. “When I had questioned the Power Department some time back why they are not laying the cables through the ducts, they said the ducts are not as per the specifications,” Coutinho said, while demanding to know as to who had ordered construction of the duct when it has not been put to use till date.
