Blockage of gutters due to dumping of mud/rubble on account of ongoing road widening works also accounted for worsening of the problem.
Motorists had a tough time in negotiating the water-logged road near Lucky’s Bar & Restaurant on the border of Calangute-Nagoa. As many as 13 cars were stuck on the road due to water logging since early morning. The car owners had difficulty in re-starting their vehicles, as most of the mechanics were off duty on account of Ganesh festival.
The road leading to St Alex Church from Bodkeavhodd stretch was flooded, while the road leading to Candolim Church from Candolim market was also flooded. Two-wheeler riders and car owners could not negotiate the water-logged road and were caught in the middle. Church goers were greatly inconvenienced with the water logging on the road leading to Candolim Church.
“We never experienced such a situation in the recent past. This was terrible. Dumping of mud or rubble could have possibly blocked the gutters,” said a daily passer by, Suresh Naik.
Another villager, Leon Fernandes, said, “The road leading to the Church was flooded and I was scared to drive in my car, but somehow I managed to get through, while others got stuck in the middle.”
