MARGAO: In a major accident, two youth, believed to be fruit vendors, from Canacona, travelling in a goods carrier, were killed on the spot when their vehicle was hit by an oncoming truck on the NH-17 at Bendulem-Balli early Sunday morning.
Both, Yusuf Mohammed (22) and Jamer Khan (17) died on the spot, while the third occupant sustained injuries in the head-on collision and has been shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Cuncolim Police Sub Inspector, Tukaram Chawan who is conducting the investigation informed that the accident occurred at 6.30 am on Sunday when the truck (KA-30—9071), on its way to Canacona, rammed against the goods carrier, which was coming towards Margao, killing Yusuf Mohammad, 22 and Jamer Khan 17 on the spot.
The truck driver fled from the accident spot. The police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the truck driver for causing the death of the duo. PSI Chawan informed that the bodies were handed over to their relatives after the postmortem examination at Hospicio hospital.
