Dy Collector inspects illegal construction in Socorro

SOCORRO: A joint inspection of an on-going illegal construction and land filling in Socorro was carried out by Bardez Deputy Collector Gaurish Shankwalkar and Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar, on Friday.
Following the inspection, the talathi has been asked to submit a detailed report of the illegal construction and land filling for further action.
Shankwalkar and Kuttikar also inspected the kiosks that have mushroomed along the National Highway 17 and revealed that they are all illegal.
During the inspection, the authorities learnt that an orchard land bearing survey No 232/8 developed into plots and sold.  Massive construction is being carried out in this area and the residents are being provided with electricity and water connection as well.
During another inspection carried out at Porvorim Tisk, it was learnt that land filling in comunidade land was underway.
During the inspection, Shankwalkar remarked that The Panchayat Act has given abundant powers to the panchayat to stop illegal construction and demolish the structure if required.
“The panchayat has not referred these matters to the office of the Deputy Collector. Under Sec 32 of the Land Revenue Code, we can take action in the matter. I have asked the Talathi to submit a detailed report of illegal construction and land filling activities in the village. On receiving the same, I will act in the matter,” he said.
Others present for the inspection include Socorro Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar and Talathi.
