PONDA: Kavlem locals have complained of heavy dust pollution found on the Kavlem main road, which is used to transport mud from one construction site in the Ponda municipal jurisdiction.
The villagers who had come on the road to protest, complained that the mud is not covered and are further overloaded, causing portion of mud to often fall on the road. They added that this not only leads to air pollution but also makes the road dangerous for driving.
Kavlem Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar who acknowledged that many locals are complaining about the same said that he had complained to the police and municipality but there had been no action taken yet. He said that the panchayat is not responsible for the dust pollution and pointed out that the contractor transports and dumps the excavated mud from the construction site in Ponda to private premises in Kavlem. He added that they will not tolerate this if it continues and asked the contractor to clean the road that is currently filled with mud and surrounded with dust, and to further take precautions while transporting mud.
