PANJIM: Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar made his presence felt at the Maharashtra election campaign.
With the entire India focused on Maharashtra elections, BJP is roping in its leaders from Goa to campaign in the poll-bound State.
In a recently concluded 5-day visit, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant campaigned alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis. This is followed by Kavlekar, who is campaigning in that State.
Kavlekar is considered a master in election campaign strategy. He campaigned for Pen candidate Ravindra Patil on Oct 18 by addressing three public meetings.
At the meeting at Dhamansai, Kavlekar appealed to the BJP workers to send Ravindra Patil to the legislative assembly as he would do better justice to Pen Assembly constituency compared to his opponent.
Kavlekar said the election promises of BJP like pension to fieldworkers and small shopkeepers, a medical college in every district would be fulfilled. He appealed to the voters to strengthen the position of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis by electing Ravindra Patil.
In another meeting at Jamgaon, Kavlekar told the voters that Ravindra Patil is a better placed candidate over his rival Dhairyashil Patil of Peasants and Workers Party of India.
“A progressive Maharashtra is emerging under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis and election of Ravindra Patil from Pen will mean that, Pen will also be a part of this progressive bandwagon,” he said.
Kavlekar highlighted the successful implementation of various schemes like Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan to make Maharashtra a drought-free State, metro rail and farmer loan waivers.
In the third public meeting that witnessed over huge crowd at Kolad Naka, Kavlekar tried to weave the chain of development for Konkan region with Narendra ‘Bhai’ at the Centre, Devendra ‘Bhai’ at the State and Ravindra ‘Bhai’ for Pen.
Responding to the popular BJP chants, Kavlekar expressed confidence of surpassing the current Vidhan Sabha figures in 2019 elections and adding Pen’s seat to the tally.
MLAs Praveen Darekar and Anil Tatkare also spoke at all these three public meetings.
For the first time in this elections, it’s a reverse trend for Goan politics as until now Goa has been witnessing political leaders from Maharashtra coming to campaign for fellow party candidates in Goa. But this time around, Goan BJP leaders are visiting Maharashtra to campaign.
Other Goan leaders who campaigned in Maharashtra include Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and MP Vinay Tendulkar and BJP organising secretary Satish Dhond.
