DySP inspects Margao barracks, assures repairs, more facilities

MARGAO: Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) Dinraj Govenkar inspected the eight barracks at Margao police station after Herald reported about the dilapidated condition of the structures.

He promised to repair the same and provide additional facilities, like a television and recreational sports.
Govenkar inspected the barracks a few days ago and noted the requirements mentioned by the police who stay at the barracks. It would take two to three months to move a proposal and get the desired works done, he said.
“In recent years, the staff strengths has increased but the facilities haven’t been upgraded accordingly. I checked and noted the requirements. There is an urgent need to repair the floor tiles, ceiling and fixtures,” he told Herald.
He continued, “I will move a requisition for the repairs and also new electrical fixtures, like tube lights and fans. A television and a carom board for recreation will also be given. We cannot provide mattress on the beds and bed linen, but we can always increase the number of beds.”
The Margao police station barracks, which houses a huge number of police officials, has been in shambles for years. Four constables residing there were also suspected to have contracted dengue and malaria.
