PANJIM: The Election Commission has sought more details on the investigation against Goa Cricket Association (GCA) over distribution of cricket kits, in violation of election code of conduct.

A senior Chief Electoral officer Monday said that returning officer has been asked to furnish certain details, which are required before taking legal opinion on whether to file first information report (FIR) against GCA president Dayanand Narvekar.

A senior official informed  that they would be collecting details and sending it to EC for action.

Earlier last month, the deputy collector, Bardez, has recommended that an FIR be filed against Narvekar for violating election code of conduct. However, the deputy collector has not specified under which provision of the law the FIR is to be filed. So the CEO’s office has referred the matter to the EC for advice.

Former GCA executive committee member Dr Shekhar Salkar and one Vallabh Kamat Dhakankar had filed a complaint with EC against Narvekar for distributing cricket kits, worth Rs 20,000 each, at a function held on January 7.
