PANJIM: The Congress has objected to the arbitrariness and highhandedness of the Election Commission officials as was evident from their attempts to disrupt the meeting at Lohia Maidan, on Wednesday. An official had attempted to stop the screening of a video clip at the meeting and was planning to seize the projector, laptop, CD and screen under the pretext that the screening of the video was unlawful.
Reginaldo’s election agent clarified that, he had sought permission from the Returning Officer for screening the video at all Congress meetings and that the Returning Officer had stated that no permission was required as long as the contents were not objectionable. Faldesai further said that there could not be any objectionable material in the video as it was a compilation of photographs and video clips which were already in the public domain either on youtube or from archives of TV channels. The clips show Parrikar claiming that he had stopped mining one month before the Supreme Court order and Uma Bharati, the BJP candidate from Jhasi, claiming that the BJP Prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was no ‘Vikas Purush’ (icon of development) but that he actually was a ‘Vinash Purush’ (Icon of destruction). The video also exposed the BJP government’s various U-Turns and the scams by its ministers.
