PANJIM: Former NRI commissioner Eduardo Faleiro stated that the standard of education in government schools is not satisfactory as compared to that of private schools.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of Bharat Nirman Information campaign organized by Press Information Burea.
“The teachers in government schools are as hard working and the students as bright and intelligent as their counterparts in private schools. What is needed is good infrastructure in government schools,” said Faleiro.
He further said the Government of India has created several schemes to provide shelter. “Affordable housing to all is an important policy of the Government of India. The Union government has several schemes to finance state governments as well as individuals belonging to economically weaker sections of the society,” he said.
“Under the scheme ‘Affordable Housing in Partnership’ financial assistance is available to the state governments for subsidizing provision of affordable housing,” said Faleiro.
Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado appealed to the people to avail benefits of social welfare schemes.
South Goa ZP President Nelly Rodrigues also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier in his welcome speech, Director of Press Information Bureau, Panjim, Gurunath Pai said to create awareness of various social schemes of the state and central governments, Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign has been organized and appealed to the people to avail the benefits.
Prizes to the winners of various competitions organised by PIB were distributed by chief guest Faleiro. Journalist Anil Pai compered the function, while Assistant Director PIB G Surendra Babu proposed the vote of thanks.
