PANJIM: The Anjuna Police have finally got their hands on Edwin Nunes after he appeared before them on Thursday.
The police arrested Edwin, who was evading arrest for the last many days for allegedly submitting a fake Covid-19 certificate.
Earlier, Edwin, who was operating the Curlies restaurant at Anjuna, was arrested in August this year in connection with the alleged death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat. The TV actress Phogat along with her two associates had partied in Curlies restaurant on the intervening night of August 22 and 23, where she was allegedly drugged.
Edwin was earlier granted conditional bail in the alleged murder of Phogat after drugs were recovered from the Curlies washroom but he violated the bail conditions imposed by the court. But when summoned for investigations by the police he instead produced a forged Covid-19 certificate of a private diagnostics laboratory and failed to turn up before the investigating officer.
Following this, the police moved for cancellation of his bail before the Additional Sessions Court, Mapusa for violation of bail conditions. The Court gave two days time for the accused to appear before the police.
The Anjuna Police had also registered another case against Edwin under Sections 468 and 472 of the IPC for submitting a fake certificate to the police.
Edwin on Thursday appeared before the police but he was arrested for a different offence that was registered against him.
The Anjuna police said Edwin has filed for bail application and it will be heard by the JMFC, Mapusa on Friday.
Anjuna Police have asked the Hyderabad Police to take Edwin’s custody if required in the NDPS case.
