MARGAO: Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated with great solemnity in Salcete villages including Margao with Muslim brethren offering Namaz at various mosques in the morning and later visiting friends and family members to exchange greetings.
On the occasion, biryani, meat dishes along with sweets and kheer were also exchanged.
The Margao Police said that Eid was celebrated with peace and there were no untoward incidents reported.
Similar was the situation at Cuncolim and Fatorda too.
The police stations in Salcete had posted policemen at several places to ensure peaceful Eid celebrations besides appealing to people to celebrate the festival with great joy and peace.
The South Goa District Police had conducted peace meetings at the police stations across the district with the members of committees with an aim of ensuring that there was no law and order situation during Eid festival.
In the evening, some Muslim brethren from Margao and other villages of Salcete converged at the Margao Municipal Council garden and greeted each other.
