MARGAO: Women’s day was observed by the Bharatiya Janata Party Fatorda Mandal and Sarzora Panchayat with two distinct programmes organised at the BJP district office in Margao and the Sarzora panchayat hall.
The BJP felicitated eight women from different parts of Salcete for their excellent work in their respective fields and they were honoured by Krishni Walkea senior member of the party. Those honourd were Amaya Shirodkar and Sanjula Naik from Curtorim, Dr Anjali Kakodkar and Rekha Rao from Magao, Jyoti Raikar and Milagreen Dias from Fatorda, Baika Gaikwad and Pratima Lolyenkar from Navelim.
At Sarzora the panchayat felicitated balwadi teacher and also a high school teacher besides honouring all the women present for the gram sabha by giving them a plant of seedless “Ambalo”. Two representatives of women’s self help group, namely Winny Dias and Connie Fernandes shared their experience of forming and functioning of their groups.
Sarpanch Sabita Mascarenhas however announced that a major function will be organised on April 24 after examinations are over so that more women can participate in the programme.
