Election Commission Issues Guidelines on AI Content for Political Campaigns

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued strict directives to political parties regarding the use of AI-generated or synthetic content during election campaigns. Parties have been asked to adhere closely to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and avoid creating or sharing deepfakes or misleading materials targeting rival candidates.

The ECI emphasized that all AI-generated content must be clearly labeled with tags such as “AI-Generated,” “Digitally Enhanced,” or “Synthetic Content” to ensure transparency. Authorities warned that any violation of these guidelines would invite strict action as part of ongoing monitoring of social media and online campaign activities.
