Counting of votes for Assembly elections across West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry is underway, with early trends indicating significant political shifts.The Bharatiya Janata Party has made major gains in West Bengal, leading in over 130 seats and putting the ruling All India Trinamool Congress under pressure. Celebrations have already begun at several BJP offices as the party edges closer to a potential breakthrough in the state.In Assam, the BJP is ahead in a majority of seats, though the Indian National Congress is putting up a strong challenge in several constituencies, making the contest competitive.Tamil Nadu has delivered one of the biggest surprises so far, with actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerging as a dominant force. The party has crossed the majority mark in early trends, pushing the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to third position, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam holds second place.In Kerala, the Indian National Congress-led United Democratic Front has crossed the halfway mark, signalling a likely change in government as the ruling Left trails.Meanwhile, in Puducherry, trends indicate that the BJP-led alliance is maintaining an advantage. With several rounds of counting still remaining, the trends are expected to fluctuate before final results are declared.
