PANJIM: Hong Kong based Anglo-Eastern Group, has planned an awareness campaign in Goa to educate students on career opportunities in merchant navy vessels, popularly known as cargo ships.
Senior executives from the Anglo Eastern Group’s Indian subsidiary, Anglo-Eastern Ship Management India will discuss career opportunities in merchant navy with the students of more than 20 schools across the State, over the next few months. This move will influence students to work aboard cargo ships as officers at attractive salaries after completing a 12-month course at Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy and thereafter undergoing an on-board training of 18 months aboard cargo ships.
Captain Puneet Malhotra, Asst General Manager, Anglo-Eastern Ship Management India said, “Our effort is to offer an excellent career in merchant navy to young students of Goa. An entry level young recruit of merchant navy on an average earns about Rs 1.65 lakh tax free salary every month at an age of 21-22 years.”
He said further, “Over a period of time, as they gain experience and get promoted, their tax free salary packages go up to as high as Rs 6-9 lakh per month.”
