PANJIM: Encroachments of the nullah along the main water supply pipeline in Curti, Ponda has become a cause of concern for the PWD authorities.
After a breach in the pipeline supplying water from OPA water treatment plant at Zingdimal-Curti on Thursday morning, around ten houses at Zingdimal were affected due to flooding.
Senior PWD officials informed that water supply was restored by late night on Thursday after the damaged portion of the pipeline was replaced.
The official however expressed concerns over the increasing encroachment along the nullah. “While there was a burst to the pipeline, we cannot ascertain the cause of the breach. However, we are concerned about the increasing number of encroachments all along the area where the pipeline is passing,” the official added.
He further stated that due to the blockage of the nullah, which is the natural way for the water to flow in case of such a breach, the houses in the surrounding areas had to face flooding.
The official also said that there are different lines that have been laid within the 6 metres width of area which is under the PWD and the lines are functioning normal.
“A breach in the pipeline could be for various reasons. The cement pipeline normally will develop a crack, while the others will be breached only at the joints”, the official added.
