Enhanced Security Measures for St. Francis Xavier Novena’s: Drones & X-Ray Scanners Deployed

Goa Police Implements Advanced Security Measures with Drones and X-Ray Scanners for St. Francis Xavier Feast

In anticipation of the Novenas leading up to the Feast of St. Francis Xavier at Old Goa, security measures have been ramped up, featuring the deployment of drones and X-Ray baggage scanners. With an estimated attendance of over a lakh pilgrims and visitors, the Goa Police is ensuring a robust security arrangement, including heavy police presence and round-the-clock surveillance starting from the night of November 24.

The security advisory emphasizes the necessity of carrying ID proofs for access to Churches, with random checks allowing flexibility for both physical and soft copies of identification. Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Nidhin Valsan assures smooth processes throughout the Novenas and the Feast, ensuring minimal inconvenience to individuals.

As part of the security plan, 250 armed staff will be deployed in each of the two shifts, accompanied by the continuous presence of one Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Special Anti-Terrorist Squad commandos and plainclothes officials will also be strategically positioned. Stringent measures within the Churches prohibit baggage, handbags, and additional luggage, with X-ray baggage machines stationed for thorough screening.

Drones will play a crucial role in monitoring visitor movement within the Old Goa police station jurisdiction, covering the Basilica of Bom Jesus and St Cathedral Church premises.
