EPIC cards distributed to new voters

MARGAO: National Voters Day was celebrated at the South Goa district level at the Damodar College with an impressive rally and the distribution of EPIC cards to the new voters in the age group of 18-19 years on Sunday.

Functions were also held at the taluka and booth level in all the talukas to mark the occasion.
The rally comprising of 400 students from the Damodar College went round the town spreading the message amongst the electorate to come out and vote fearlessly during the election.
District Collector and District Electoral Officer, Venancio Furtado informed that around 4138 new voters in the age group of 18-19 years from South Goa have been enrolled in the electoral roll during the summary electoral revision held during the period from October 20 to November 20 last year.
“Election officers had held various competitions, including elocution, drawing and singing, besides street plays at the district level to spread the message that everyone should become a voter and obtain an EPIC card”, he said.
Replying to a question, Furtado said the election authorities have appointed nodal officers in the colleges and higher secondary school to ensure that voters in the age group of 18-19 years are registered on the electoral roll.
